Cornel West makes a distinction between what he calls the Constantinian Christianity and the Prophetic Christianity. Constantinian Christianity is the state ideology of the empire. It serves the purposes of the empire. On the other hand Prophetic Christianity is the movement against the oppression of the empire. Whatever that empire may be - of the past and the present.
